Competition categories

A / Films from below the water’s surface ( professional )
This category is open to films in which the total length of the segments created underwater occupies at least 30% of the total length of the film. 

B / Films from below the water’s surface ( amateur )
This category is open to films in which the total length of the segments created underwater occupies at least 30% of the total length of the film, total length not to exceed 30 minutes and were not made for commercial use.

C / Films about water and the aquatic environment  ( professional )
This category is open to films dealing with themes related to water and the aquatic environment. Footage from below the water’s surface may take up less than 30 % of the length of the film or may be completely absent.

D / Films about water and the aquatic environment ( amateur )
This category is open to films dealing with themes related to water and the aquatic environment. Footage from below the water’s surface may take up less than 30 % of the length of the film or may be completely absent.   Also, the films must not exceed 30 minutes in length and were not made for commercial use.

Conditions of participation

  • The competition is open to amateur and professional filmmakers.
  • Conditions for the acceptance of a film into the competition is the duly completed and submitted on-line application form published on the MFPF website.  The deadline for submission of films and applications is 5 September 2025.  
  • By entering a film in the competition the author gives his/her explicit consent to the registration of his/her personal data provided in the entry form for the purposes of the MFPF competition and at the same time assumes all liability with regard to copyright.
  • The competition films will be judged by a pre-selection jury appointed by the competition organiser. Only those works that correspond to the thematic focus of the competition and are of high artistic and technical quality will be included in the competition screening.
  • Only films that have not previously participated in any edition of this competition will be accepted. Films must have been produced after 2015.
  • The selection jury reserves the right to limit the number of films screened due to time constraints.
  • Authors will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by email. The results will also be published on the mfpf.eu website.

Technical conditions

  • Recommended format – video 
  • Recommended resolution – 1920×1080, 25p, H264 codec, 2.0 audio format.
  • Films sent in other formats may not be accepted into the competition due to technical problems on the organizer’s side.
  • We recommend sending the film through portals providing data transfer services, such as uschovna.cz, Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, or they can be sent on USB Flash Drive by post to the address of the competition organiser.  The USB Flash Drive will not be returned by the organizer.  Authors can pick them up during the festival.
  • Films placed on YouTube, Stream, Vimeo and similar servers will not be downloaded and accepted by the organizer.

Awards

The competition images are evaluated by an expert jury appointed by the MFPF organizer. At the awarding ceremony the MFPF organiser will award prizes as selected by the expert jury:
GRAND PRIX MFPF – The prize will be awarded in the film category
TOP PHOTOGRAPHER MFPF – The prize will be awarded in the author’s portfolio category
BEST SLOVAK FILM – Award of the Slovak Diving Association
BEST SLOVAK PHOTOGRAPHY – Award of the Slovak Diving Association
There will be 2nd and 3rd Place prizes awarded in all categories
Special prizes and honorable mentions. 

No trophies will be awarded to absent authors. They can collect them personally from the organiser until the end of 2025. Diplomas and honorable mentions will be sent to absent authors by e-mail after the festival. The results will be published by the organiser on the MFPF website.

The organiser will use the submitted film during the pre-selection and during the festival for the needs of the film screening and after the end of the festival it will be included in the archive of the IFFF for the purpose of documentation and possible use exclusively for non-commercial purposes (research, education, post-festival film screenings…).

Entry of films or photographs to the competition is not conditional on payment of any entry fee.
